Change is underway at MMO developer Turbine Entertainment, a part of Warner Bros. Interactive. Back in July, Warner Bros announced layoffs at the studio as it transitioned to F2P mobile games. Today, that transition is complete.
A new studio is being formed, Standing Stone Games, consisting of the developers behind Lord of the Rings Online and D&D Online. Turbine is handing over the reins to both games to Standing Stone.
Rob Ciccolini, executive producer of Lord of the Rings Online said in a statement “our development continues on track, and the plans we have already announced remain firmly in our future view. Again, although we are a new studio, we are also the same developers who have been and will continue to work on our games.”
Standing Stone Games is gaining the licenses to both properties and little is expected to change. The websites and servers will continue to be the same. Taking over the publishing duties will by Daybreak Games, formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment.
